The successful management of physical assets needs much more than technical skill. Increased mechanization and automation, greater technological complexity and continual pressure to reduce unit cost, are all drivers for more precisely focused asset management strategies. It is an environment where inadequate operating policies or unsuitable maintenance procedures can cost tens of thousands — even millions — of real dollars and lost customer service. Managers today must adopt radical new ways of thinking and acting. Acquiring the right skills by trial and error is no longer acceptable – trial takes too long and error is simply too expensive.

As part of our commitment to extend the boundaries of reliability field research, New Dimension Solutions has just completed a 2 year study for the American Water Works Research Foundation (AwwARF). The research sites were Denver Water and Indianapolis Water and a reliability survey was completed by over 100 water/wastewater utilities across North America. The study assessed the current state of reliability at water utilities and explored how implementing RCM could increase reliability. For more on this study go to: Research
